The Fitmums and Friends 365 Challenge
Fitmums and Friends Ltd are a voluntary organisation fuelled by a passionate team of volunteers from across East, South and the North of Yorkshire; spanning from York to Hull, Hedon to Cottingham and even as far as Dearne Valley, plus several places in between. Our volunteer team inspire both our members and the local community to become and stay active, leading them in running, fitness and buggy walks, cycle rides and junior athletics sessions.
Here at Fitmums we love a challenge and we cannot resist the opportunity to get involved with what’s going on in our local community. We couldn’t miss out on combining these two passions for the City of Culture 2017, and we’re thrilled that Springfield Solutions have enabled us to present to you the Fitmums and Friends 365 Challenge!
This is our chance to contribute not only to the City of Culture year, but also to support the people living and working in Hull and East Yorkshire to be in the very best of health and achieve their full fitness potential. The challenge is open to all; current, potential and non-members, those living in Hull, East Yorkshire or further afield. Costing £5, each participant will receive a medal upon completion, with all entry fees going directly back to Fitmums and Friends to help support the work we do in local communities to help people become more active.
So, what is the challenge?
This exciting initiative is for individuals, businesses and schools. See video here for more information.
The challenge for adults is to run, walk, cycle or buggy push 365 miles during 2017. Alternatively if swimming, exercise/dance classes, team sports, dog walking are more your thing - then record these and aim to be as active as possible in line with recommendations (30 minutes on at least 5 days in a week). More details here.
Children are being challenged to complete 365 periods of activity over the year; preferably this will be 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every day (in keeping with the national physical activity guidelines for 5-18 years). This could be anything, like walking, scooting or cycling to school, PE lessons, sports clubs or even playing tig with friends, family walks, playing in the garden.
For each one mile, or 1 hour period of physical activity, colour in a mosaic tile on the activity chart (more about this below). Each participant will receive a medal once they have completed their 365 challenge. Please note Schools & Corporate packages offer different incentive gifts.
Note to Cyclists & Long distance runners
You may not take very long to complete this Challenge so why not see how many 365 Challenges you can do in the year instead!
What’s an activity chart?
Thanks to Springfield Solutions we have a selection of mosaic activity charts which you can use to record your miles. These depict some of the most iconic images of Hull; the Humber Bridge, the Deep and the KCOM Stadium; we also have a beautiful Yorkshire Rose for those of you not in Hull!
