Here are some of your leaders at York Rose Fitmums & Friends.

What made you take up running?

From the age of 10 I was classed as morbidly obese and had tried absolutely everything to lose weight unsuccessfully. In  2009 I became a mum and didn't want to be an overweight mum with health risks and a shorter life span, when it was found that our family is a high cancer risk and  the consultant said I could potentially lower my chances of getting cancer by losing weight and living healthy it all just clicked into place and I decided to start running.

What made you join FM?

The lovely Hannah at York council told me that Fitmums and friends were looking for a team to set up in York and I jumped at the chance to be involved.

What was your original goal?

I set myself the goal in 2012 to run a marathon, which I did in 2013. I'd always done a bit of run walking in the past, quite a few laughed at me which gave me more determination to succeed.

What else have you done?

I've completed  6 marathons, 1 ultra marathon and more half marathons and 10k's than I can count. I lost 6.5 stone in the process and now work in the fitness industry.

What are you planning for next year?

2017 is a big year for me, I aim to complete another 2 marathons, an Olympic distance triathlon (hopefully if I have time) and continued support for Fitmums and friends

What would you tell someone who was thinking about joining FM?

Do it, we really are a running club with a difference, we are not scary. We are friendly and support all of our runners whether their individual goal is to run a mile or a marathon. There is no better way to make friends and get fitter in the process

What made you take up running?

New Years eve I set myself a challenge to do something different in 2013. I wasn't sure what, but it had to be something I'd never down before. The York Marathon was launching for the first year and having seen all the promotions across the city I strangely wanted to be a part of it. I signed up without even owning a pair of trainers!

What made you join FM?

I had seen a lot of fitmums tops at local races and always thought they looked a friendly and fun group. When we were approached to set up the York branch I jumped at the chance.

What was your original goal?

To go from non sporty type to marathon runner in 6 months.

What else have you done?

1 (soon to be 2) ultra marathons - 4 marathons and far too many half marathons / 10ks to remember.

What are you planning for next year?

I always say I want to scale down distance and work on speed... yet I'll probably get talked into another marathon. I get drawn in by the medals!

What would you tell someone who was thinking about joining FM?

Do it! As well as the fitness benefits it's a great chance to meet some fantastic and inspiring people.
