Running, walking and buggy burn groups to help improve fitness and provide an opportunity to socialise with like-minded people.
Fitmums & Friends welcomes all standards of runners including those who have never run before but fancy having a go. Sessions offer a choice of distances with a 1,2,3,4,5 and 6+ mile group on offer at each session with a run leader for each group. No need to worry about holding the group back: the ‘shepherding’ system ensures everyone exercises at an appropriate level for their ability with the reassurance that you will never be left behind. Everyone is committed to this system which is what makes Fitmums & Friends so very supportive. Many of the Fitmums & Friends training programmes also include hill training, speed sessions, timed runs and strength and conditioning circuits. These are always suitable for every level of runner so everyone is welcome. Apart from adding variety and fun to the running programme they really help running fitness.
Longer runs are nearly always on offer outside of Club sessions – these are often advertised on the Clubs facebook page. Can you also add a a link to the sessions on home page and put a sentence at end saying. To see run options see here.
Two types of buggy sessions are available; buggy fitness walks & buggy bootcamp. Buggy fitness walks offer a walking workout for parents with a child in a buggy, or for anyone who just wants a walking workout (no buggy & child required!). Buggy bootcamp is a sports-hall based session which offers a good workout including toning and resistance work . Buggy walks are usually 2 or 3 miles (less if necessary). Buggy bootcamp offers some toning and resistance work to help tone up bums, tums and legs. Buggy sessions tend to be term-time only – no need to book, just turn up. Buggy sessions are for people of all ages, sizes and abilities, for pregnant women who want to keep fit and healthy during pregnancy or anyone who wants a walking-based exercise class (dads and grandparents welcome). Buggy sessions are a safe and effective class to do and can help to burn fat, tone muscles and increase fitness levels. Sessions start with a warm up followed by a main workout of moderate to fast walking or in the case of buggy bootcamp a cardio workout to work the lungs and heart and to burn fat. Fitmums & Friends offers a Fitness Walk at some Fitmums sessions. The fitness walk is usually 3 miles with opportunities for shorter options for those that need less. A volunteer walk leader leads the walk and the the aim is to support members to enjoy a fun cardiovascular walking workout. Everyone is welcome – male, female, you don’t need to be a mum/dad or fit. Distances vary according to the abilities within the group and whether squads are training for an event. Each Club will endeavour to support complete beginners – you only need to chat/email the Club Co-ordinators to find out how. Leaders support the group to ensure no one gets lost or left behind. Rides go at a pace that will suit all the members of the group (sometimes splitting into paced groups), and use a system of ‘rolling regroups’ to keep everyone together. The rides are not competitive, and are social occasions as much as exercise. More details can be found here.
Fitmums & Friends gives children from 5 years to teens the opportunity to be physically active in a fun and friendly environment. FMJs (Fitmums & Friends Juniors) is for children aged 5+ and “10 to Teens” offers the next step in athletics coaching for children from 10 years old. Sessions include all athletic disciplnes; running,throwing and jumping and are facilitated by fully qualified Athletics Coaches (England Athletics). More details can be found here.
